How to Get Wimbledon Tickets

Save

Held in the London, England, surburb of Wimbledon each June, the Wimbledon Championships is one of the four Grand Slam events in tennis each year. Held since 1877, it is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament and takes place at the All-England Club. You can get tickets if you're dedicated enough, as there is an overnight queue for some seats. There are other options, also, which are listed below.

  • Join the Lawn Tennis Association. This is the easiest way to obtain tickets as the All England Lawn Tennis Club sells most of the tickets for the event to its members. You obtain a ballot from the club in August and must mail it in by the end of December. There are more applications than tickets available through this method, so there is a random computerized draw for courts and event days. Once you have obtained membership you can send a self-addressed stamped envelope to: The Ticket Office, AELTC, P.O. Box 98, London SW19 5AE. Overseas applicants should include International Postal Reply Coupons.

  • Stand in line the day (or night before) of the match. For all but the last four days of the championships, 500 tickets are available for the Centre and No. 1 and No. 2 courts the day of the match. Interested visitors will usually need to get in line the night before as the lines fill up for all of the available tickets. Bring a tent and/or sleeping bag. The tickets cost between £27 to £72, depending on the court and the day.

  • Get in line for Grounds Admission tickets. If you do not get in the queue soon enough for tickets to the courts, do not despair. There are still 6,000 of these general admission tickets sold each day. With these you can find spots at the No. 2 court enclosure and standing areas or unreserved seats on Courts 3 through 19. Ticket prices range between £5 and £18.

  • Look on eBay. The popular online auction site usually has a nice selection of tickets from people looking to resell their Wimbledon tickets. Begin checking the site in May to search for your seat.
