Installing hardware on new cabinets can be easily accomplished. This article focuses on the installation of pulls or knobs on cabinet doors and drawers. A pull requires two screws to attach, a knob just one.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Measuring tape Hardware Drill Drill bit Philips head screwdriver
  1. Step 1

If installing hardware that requires two screws, be certain the space between the two holes that you drill are precise. Drill the holes from the front of the door instead of the back, as splintering may occur.

  2. Step 2

Clean any splintering off the back of the door before installing the screw into the hole. Insert a screw through one of the holes and align it with the back of the hardware. If two screws are required, do not tighten the first one before starting the second.

  3. Step 3

Mark the drawer where your hardware will be installed. In most cases, it will be centered on the drawer front.

  4. Step 4

Measure the center of the drawer front; measure both the width and height.

  5. Step 5

If this hardware requires two screws, split the difference of the space between the two screws and mark the drawer front accordingly. For example, if there is a 3-inch space between the screws in the hardware, mark 1½ inches in either direction of the center mark.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear safety glasses. Hold the door and drill firmly, but allow the drill to bore the hole without putting a lot of pressure behind it. Be careful when cleaning the splintering from the back of the door or drawer as this could cause injury to your fingers.
  • Never leave power tools unattended. Do not over tighten screws as this will damage the front of your drawer or door.
