How to Make Shampoo for Carpets
Hiring a professional to clean your carpets can easily run you $100 or more. Some professional carpet cleaners also use a shampoo that can leave a sticky residue on your carpets. It is much cheaper to rent a carpet shampooer for $20 and fill it with your own homemade carpet shampoo. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Dish soap White vinegar Ammonia Rubbing alcohol Water Bucket Empty laundry detergent containers Funnel

Fill a bucket with 3/4 of a gallon of warm water.

Add 1 tsp of dish soap to the bucket, preferably while the water is running into the bucket. This way the dish soap gets mixed naturally into the water.

Add 1 pint of rubbing alcohol, 1 tsp of ammonia and 2 tsp of white vinegar. Stir in with the water/dish detergent.

Place a funnel in an empty laundry detergent container. Pour the mixture in until the container is full.

Pour any leftovers in another empty laundry detergent container. Store like you would any other detergent.

Tips & Warnings
Invest in a carpet shampooer so that you don't have the cost of renting one each month.
You should never mix ammonia and bleach. The fumes alone are very dangerous. Always store your shampoo away from toddlers and young children.
