Tulle is a romantic decoration for a wedding. The filmy material can be swagged and draped. It is found in craft, cloth and discount stores and is easy on the wedding decoration budget. It is also reusable for crafts or for another wedding. Use ribbon in complementary wedding colors on white netting for added decoration.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tulle Ribbon Scissors White Christmas lights Arbor

    Church or Ceremony Location

  1. Step 1

Drape tulle down the aisle on the outer edges of pews. This can be for the family area only or for the entire seating area.

  2. Step 2

Tie tulle with ribbon at each aisle seat for a draping effect.

  3. Step 3

Pick a matching color of tulle for candelabra or altar bouquet bows. Cut a 12-inch length of four-inch-wide tulle for each bow needed. Tie a knot in the center of the 12-inch piece of tulle.

  4. Step 4

Cut five foot-long, four-inch-wide pieces of tulle.

  5. Step 5

Hold tulle piece about eight inches from the end and pinch it between your fingers. Make a loop that is six inches long. Pinch and hold the loop in your fingers.

  6. Step 6

Twist the tulle piece sharply and make a loop across from the first loop. Repeat and make six or seven loops in all.

  7. Step 7

Pick up the knotted piece of tulle in your free hand and wrap it around the bow in your hand. Keep the pre-tied knot in the front center of the bow and tie the piece to secure the bow. Knot in the back. Tie this tulle bow on to a candelabra piece by itself or added to a satin bow. Attach it to a wired stick to place it into a floral arrangement.

  8. Step 8

Make and tie four loop tulle bows to the bridesmaid and bridal bouquet handles in place of more expensive ribbon.

  9. Reception

  10. Step 1

Lay 10 to 15 yards of tulle and a few sets of white lights on top of the tables which will be used for the wedding party. Plug the light strings into a surge protector that's plugged into a wall socket. If an extension cord is needed, plan a way to keep it out of sight. Tape it to the floor behind the table to protect anyone from stepping on or tripping over it.

  11. Step 2

Tie a decorative bow of satin 1/2-inch-wide ribbon to hold the light cord and tulle together and tape to one back corner of the table. Wide, clear packing tape works well to hold the tulle and lights firmly to the table. Pull the tulle and light string to the front corner of the table and pin it to the tablecloth with a safety pin. Tie a bow on to the tulle to cover the pin.

  12. Step 3

Drape the tulle and lights across the front of the table. Tie ribbon bows in place to create swags with the tulle. Use safety pins to secure the tulle and lights in place. Secure the final corner with packing tape as you secured it on the other end of the table.

  13. Step 4

Place an arbor over the cake table or in an area where guests enter the room. Tie tulle to the top center of the arbor with a piece of ribbon. Drape the tulle down the sides of the arbor. Tie it to the sides of the arbor with pieces of ribbon. Tie the ribbon in simple 'shoe lace' bows. Add silk or real flowers to the tulle with corsage pins. You can place lightweight blossoms inside the tulle randomly for a nice effect.

  14. Step 5

Wrap four to six yards of tulle around the top of the bride and groom chairs at the reception table. Cover the front of the top smoothly while two tails of tulle hangs in the back.

  15. Step 6

Hold tulle in each hand and tie at the center of the top of the chair. Knot it securely.

  16. Step 7

Add a cluster of flowers or a ribbon bow where the knot is on the tulle. The tulle will flow down the back of the chair and pool on the floor.

  17. Step 8

Streamers of tulle can be draped from the ceiling to various points around the room. Tie simple ribbon bows to the tulle to create a garland affect.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use tulle garland tied with bows to block off any area where guests are not allowed to go for a friendlier appearance. If the tablecloth is made from paper, cut slits in it and thread packing tape through the slits to adhere to the table. This tape will hold the netting and light string in place. Ribbon bows will cover the tablecloth slits and tape.
  • When using strings of lights be sure to protect guests from cords. Hide them wherever possible. When pinning light cords and tulle to a table cloth be sure to keep the pin around the fine cord. Be careful not to pierce it. Do not place lit candle flames near tulle.
