How to Uninstall Microsoft Messenger
Your Windows operating system comes integrated with Windows Messenger. This program is designed by Microsoft and is a messaging program that is designed for corporations and individual usage. This program has also been integrated into other programs such as, Outlook Express. If you do not use the program or do not want it automatically opening when you start Windows, you may uninstall it. This guide will provide easy steps in uninstalling this program from your PC.

Close all Windows programs that may be open so that they will not interfere with the uninstall.

Verify that your windows messenger program appears in your "Add/Remove" programs menu. You can check this by clicking the "Start" button in the lower left hand of your computer screen. Next, choose "Control panel." Choose "Add/remove programs." The programs that are installed on your PC are listed.

Verify that Windows messenger is listed. If it is not listed, it's hidden. To unhide the windows messenger, click "Start," then "Run." In the text box type the following text, C:\WINDOWS\INF\SYSOC.INF, press "OK." Your notepad program opens and contains script.

Find the line: msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7. Delete the word "hide." You are left with the following line, msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,7. Click "File," then "Save." Open the "Add/remove" programs list as directed in Step 2. The Windows Messenger program should now be listed. Choose "Windows Messenger" then choose "Change/Remove." You will be instructed to verify if you wish to continue with the uninstall. Choose "OK" and continue to follow the instructions and choosing "Next" until the uninstall completes. Click "Finish."

Restart your PC and verify that Windows Messenger has been completely removed.
