How to Do a Frontside Tailslide on a Skateboard

Here's a way to put that frontside 180 ollie to good use.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skate Rails
  • Skateboard Decks
  • Skateboard Helmets
  • Skateboard Pads
  • Skateboard Parts
  • Skateboard Trucks
  • Skateboard Wheels
  • Skateboarding Shoes
  • Skateboards
  1. Step 1

Be comfortable with frontside 180 ollies before trying this trick.

  2. Step 2

Set your feet up for an ollie.

  3. Step 3

Ride parallel to the object you want to slide.

  4. Step 4

Ollie before you reach it, and turn your body like you would for a frontside 180.

  5. Step 5

Point your tail toward the object so you are looking at it when your tail lands on the object.

  6. Step 6

Stay over the tail of the board, not the middle of the board. You need this weight and pressure to make the slide go.

  7. Step 7

Stand on the tail as it lands and starts to slide, and lean back slightly to make the slide easier and longer.

  8. Step 8

Put pressure on the ball of your rear foot, and push that foot behind you once you have slid and are ready to come off. Keep the nose of the board raised until the tail comes off the object so you drop evenly.

Tips & Warnings
  • The faster you roll before you get on the object, the faster and farther you'll slide.
  • Skateboarding is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.

on 8/14/2006 Start off doing flat ground Indies. Just ollie, and as you bring your board up to your chest, reach down with your right or left hand (depending on if you are regular or goofy), and grab for a second and let go. Let your knees bend on the way down. Now its time for the biggies. Find a kicker, get at least 40 feet away from it, and get a good amount of speed. As you reach the end of the kicker, give your board an average ollie, do the same as you would flat ground, but you can hold on a little longer. As you land, bend your knees to soften the landing.

Dangers or problems: Don't dip your head in, you can look down with your eyes to see what your doing in the air but as you approach the kicker look straight at it or ahead of yourself until your in the air otherwise you will end up bailing. Don't lean back or else you could become seriously injured.

on 11/22/2005 Don't ride straight up to what you're sliding on...It doesn't work that well. Learn by going at it at about a 20 or 30 degree angle. Ollie like you were going to do an axle stall on a curb that is perpendicular, or that is ahead of you. Stomp your back foot down to catch the tailslide but don't stomp too hard or you won't go anywhere. You want to keep most of your weight over the foot that is on the tail. After you slide some or most of whatever you are tailsliding then turn out whichever way is most comfortable for you.
