How to Reset an iPod Nano 3rd Generation

If your iPod freezes or stops working, it may be time to reset it. When you do this, the device will turn off completely and the the operating system will reload. This process is much like restarting a malfunctioning computer, and can be used to clear up minor software issues. Once the iPod as been reset, it should return to normal. This process should not alter or damage your music or video files.

Things You'll Need:

• iPod Nano (3rd Generation) Flat surface

1. Set your iPod on a flat surface with the LCD screen facing up. Placing your iPod in this position will allow you to apply even pressure to the different buttons during the reset process.

2. Toggle the hold switch a few times, and make sure it is set to the unlocked position. This will ensure that the buttons on the iPod are not malfunctioning due to a sticky hold button.

3. Press the middle "Select" and menu buttons at the same time. It is very important that these buttons be pressed in unison, or the iPod will not reset correctly.

4. Hold these buttons down for 10 seconds. You will see a black screen with an Apple logo, with a status bar at the bottom. If the reset is successful, your Apple iPod screen will return to normal after a minute or so. If it has not been successful, you may want to try other troubleshooting options, or take your iPod to an Apple service center.

Tips & Warnings

• If you are unable to reset your device, or it freezes very frequently, it may be time to upgrade your iPod, as iPod repair costs are notoriously high.
