How to Write a Resume for an Independent Claim Insurance Appraiser

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for independent claims insurance appraisers is expected to remain consistent through 2016. Independent claims insurance appraisers are self-employed, typically with experience working in-house for a large insurance company. These professionals are contracted by insurance companies to conduct a variety of appraisals including property and automobile damages. To become an independent claims insurance adjuster, you'll first need to update your resume.

Create a section for professional experience. Highlight a few different areas including claims experience, administration or management experience. For example, administration could be a header, and you could list four to five bullet points that describe your experience in one sentence each. For a sample, check out Job Bank USA (see Resources).

Create a section for your education. List your college degree, or industry classes you've completed. For example: Michigan State University, Bachelor of Science Business Administration.

Tips & Warnings

  • Send your resume through both mail and email. This will increase the hiring manager's exposure to your resume materials.

  • Don't forget to follow up. Some candidates skip this step, afraid that it's an annoyance. Following up with a potential employer increases your exposure to the recruiter or hiring manager.
