Things You'll Need:
- A Dog
- Their absolute favorite treats or toy.
- Patience
-
Step 1
USING A TOY: If your using your dogs favorite toy, get it out and let your dog know that you have it and get him into a real playful mood.
-
Step 2
Show him/her the toy and tease them with it. Don't let them have it though.
-
Step 3
Keep on saying stuff in a high pitched voice like "you want it? you want it? speak!!"
-
Step 4
Eventually he should bark out of frustration and as soon as he does give lots of praise and the toy. REPEAT
-
Step 5
USING FOOD: When your using food instead of a toy, it's pretty much the same but maybe you could let the dog really sniff the food or rub it on his tongue to tease him and make him want it even more.
-
Step 6
Now once you train your dog to "speak" then you have to teach him to be quiet. If you dog is a continuous barker then after about three barks say QUIET in a sharp voice and if he stops then praise him and give him a treat.
-
Step 7
If your dog just barks only once then you may not have to worry about them being quiet but if your dog ever does bark continuously then quiet could be useful.
