How to Download Pictures From an S30 Canon Digital Camera

The Canon PowerShot S30 is a compact point-and-shoot digital still camera with 3.2 megapixels, a 3.2x optical zoom lens and a built-in flash. The Canon S30 takes a CompactFlash (CF) card (either Type I or Type II) and has a USB interface. This article will explain how to download pictures from a Canon S30 Digital Camera by either connecting the camera directly to your computer by USB or by use of a CF card reader.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Canon PowerShot S30 USB cable or CF card reader

    Connect the Canon S30 by USB

  1. Step 1
     

    Find the mini-USB port on the Canon S30 (found under a flap on the side of the camera). The mini-USB port that is smaller than what is usually found on a desktop or laptop computer. Use a mini-USB to USB Type A cable (the large flat connector most often found on computers and laptops). See the photo for an example.

  2. Step 2

    Connect the USB cable to your camera and to your computer.

  3. Step 3

    Set the Canon S30's control wheel on top to the view mode (this is the arrow pointing to the right).

  4. Step 4

    Wait for your computer to recognize your camera

  5. Step 5

    Select what you would like to do with your photos from the pop-up window that appears.

  7. Download Photos by CompactFlash Card Reader

  8. Step 1

    Remove the CF card from the Canon PowerShot S30. Open the cover to the CF card slot on the underside of the camera by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. Push the CF card eject button to release the card.

  9. Step 2

    Insert the card into a CF card reader.

  10. Step 3

    Connect the card reader to your computer.

  11. Step 4

    Wait for your computer to recognize the card reader.

  12. Step 5

    Select what you would like to do with your photos from the pop-up window that appears.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't insert a CF card into a reader not designed to read CF cards.
