How to Create a MS-DOS Boot Partition to Set Up Windows 1998
Do you need to install windows 98? Is your drive partitioned properly? Windows 98 appeared on the computer scene following Windows 95 as a more stable operating system. Installing Windows 98 requires you to create a special compartment on your computer hard drive called a partition.

Create a Windows 1998 boot floppy disk with CD-rom drivers on a PC running Windows 98. (see Resource section below)

Use this new disk to load DOS on the PC you wish to install Windows 98. Load DOS at the the DOS promt by typing "fdisk."

Type "Y" at the screen asking "DO YOU WANT TO ENABLE LARGE DISK SUPPORT?"

Type "1" on the next screen titled, "MS WINDOWS 98 FIXED DISK SETUP PROGRAM." Be sure the disk you wish to partition has no data on it that you may need. The choice you made will create a a DOS partition or logical DOS drive.

Enter "1" for the choice to create primary DOS partition; the disk will be checked for integrity.

Reboot once the process is complete to confirm the changes.

Run "fdisk" again and choose to make the primary partition active and reboot.

Run the format command by typing "forma" at the DOS promt. Once disk format is complete, insert the Windows 98 CD.

Switch to the CD-rom drive and run SETUP.exe from the Windows 98 CD.
