Find Green Stores in Boston

It seems everyone these days are going green. People are using travel mugs, reusable water bottles and bringing cloth bags to the grocery store. However, it is still hard for buyers to find eco-conscious gifts and household products. But buyers can rejoice in Boston. After a large effort to be more green-friendly, visitors and residents can ride in environmentally conscious cars and throw out their trash in solar-powered garbage cans. Located in Boston are some great green stores where you can buy everything from clothing to housewares.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Fiddlehead on Newbury Street is located in downtown Boston. Right off the Hynes Convention stop on the MBTA's green line, Fiddlehead is easy to get to. Fiddlehead calls itself a green emporium and it lives up to its name. The store stocks everything from reusable cloth sandwich bags to sea-glass plates to jewelry and soap. This place is great for gifts and for the green buyer who is looking to spurlge on an item for themselves. The hours are somewhat limited, so call before you go. As a bonus, the store has an online shop so you can order gift from anywhere.

  2. Step 2

Oak is also located on Newbury Street. A bit farther down from Fiddlehead, its green claim to fame is that everything in the store is handmade. Reducing manufacturing costs and pollution, the store specializes in everything handmade---although this isn't your grandmother's crafts. Come in and choose from felted slippers, bold jewelry, crocheted pot holders and handsewn aprons. The inventory changes routinely, and the store also has a blog and online shop.

  3. Step 3

Greenward is located in Cambridge's Porter Square. A suburb of Boston, the store is accessible off of the red line Porter Square stop. The store has everything from reusable shopping bags to bamboo bowls and purses. One of the first eco-friendly stores, they have only increased in popularity. Don't miss this Cambridge favorite on your next visit or peruse their online store.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check back often because inventory rotates.
  • Small boutique stores tend to have limited hours, so beware of what time you go.
