One of the most important steps in housebreaking is keeping a close eye on your dog. It's important that your dog is never, ever out of your sight. The difficult dogs that I've seen have been the ones that were allowed to sneak off and pee and poop when no one was around, so the first step in house training the difficult dog is excellent management skills.

Housebreaking the difficult dog is a lot like keeping an eye on a small child. Just as you can't let a small child out of your site, the same is true with the difficult dog. Your dog is going to go everywhere with you in the house. This is done by attaching a leash to your dog's collar, and then attaching that leash to your belt or tying it around your waist.

If your dog starts to have an accident, you can quickly interrupt your dog by stomping your foot very loudly, clapping your hands and then quickly taking your dog outside.

If your dog successfully sneaks off and has an accident, there is no one there to influence the dog's behavior.
