Tattooing is a common practice in many cultures around the world. Often a person will get a tattoo early in life that signifies an important event or person in their life at that time. The permanency of tattoos, however, can cause a person to come to regret having gotten a tattoo and can be cause for embarrassment as they grow older. Outside of laser removal surgery, there is very little someone can do to remove a tattoo. However, a tattoo can be covered up.       Try Dermablend. Dermablend is a makeup/concealer that is waterproof if combined with setting powder. It comes in various shades that are represented by numbers. It also comes in a foundation for the face, as well as a tube as a body makeup which can be used to cover up tattoos, varicose veins, freckles and a variety of other skin imperfections.       Cover up your tattoo with clothing. Depending on the location of your tattoo, you might be able to cover the tattoo without compromising your look. For example, a woman might wear a beautiful shawl that extenuates her overall ensemble but also discretely hides a tattoo on her shoulder.

      Try department store makeup. A concealer that matches your skin tone can also be used to cover tattoos as long as you set it with a powder. When using a concealer, keep in mind that you need to try to avoid rubbing the area with the concealer against clothing or other surfaces where it might rub off on.

      Try the kind of theatrical makeup that actors use on the stage. Theater makeup is usually thicker and made to withstand hot lights and long performances (see Resources below).
