Step 1
Write the date that the check will be cashed in the date section of the check. This is usually located in the upper left corner of the check.

Write "cash" or your own name in the "Pay to the order of" section.

Enter the amount of cash that you want in the box next to "Pay to the order of." Write very clearly and use periods to separate dollars and cents.

Write out in words the amount of the check on the line below. For example, if you plan to cash a $300 check, write "three hundred and 00/100" on the line. The "00/100" indicates that no cents are requested. Draw a line at the end of the written-out amount so that the entire line is filled up.

Step 5
Write the reason for the check on the "For" line in the bottom left corner. This is optional and is only for your records; it is not needed by the bank to cash the check.

Step 6
Sign the check on the signature line.

Step 7
Take the check to the bank to cash it. Be sure to bring some type of identification with you.
