Complete the mandatory state-approved, 120-hour educational course. This course is for basic certification and will teach you many of the procedures and practices of bail bondsmanship. This course will also teach you about the laws that govern what you can and cannot do during bail recovery, as well as what services you may and may not provide your clients.

Complete the Florida state-approved correspondence course. A fee is associated with this course, however the fee varies. Current information regarding the correspondence course can be found by calling the Florida Department of Financial Services.

Obtain, complete and submit an application for a Limited Surety Agent Temporary License. In order to complete this application, you must meet certain criteria and also pass a background check. The application typically requires additional documentation, however, the required documents change year by year. Once you request your application, you will be given a list of necessary documents.

Obtain an appointment with an insurance company. A list of appropriate companies can be found on the State of Florida's Department of Insurance page. You must wait until you receive your license in the mail to become appointed. You must also obtain an appointment with an insurance company before you can complete your next requirement.

Complete a one-year internship with a licensed Florida bail bondsman. You must have your license before you are permitted to complete this requirement.

Successfully pass the final exam. Obtain an application from the Promissor to submit to the Florida Department of Financial Services. The Department of Financial Services will then provide you with an authorization notice, which will allow you to schedule and take the final exam.
