Dry erase markers are becoming more of an office supply staple recently. Unfortunately, they are typically not of the "washable" variety and this means that they will easily stain clothing.

In addition, children are often using these markers and are likely to stain their clothing during use.

The good news is that these stains are probably not permanent and by trying just a few common household items you can probably lift a dry erase marker stain from most clothing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Murphy's Oil soap Ivory soap Baby wipes Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Old tooth brush Water
  1. Step 1

Apply a straight solution of Murphy's Oil Soap directly to the stain and allow it to penetrate completely. After soaking for several minutes, brush the stain with the tooth brush.
If any stain remains, apply a small amount of Ivory soap to the stain and work this in with the tooth brush.

  2. Step 2

Another option is to work at the stain with a typical baby wipe. Use the baby wipe in a scrubbing fashion and many times this will remove a dry erase stain.

  3. Step 3

Often a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser can be used to lift out dry erase marker stains. Attempt to rub the stain out first with a dry magic eraser. If this isn't effective add a small amount of water to the magic eraser and rub at the stain again. This usually works well.

  4. Step 4

Wash the garment as normal in the washing machine.

  5. Step 5

Check to make sure that the stain is out, prior to putting the garment in the dryer. Once the garment is dried, the stain is set and cannot be removed.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are now some brands of washable dry erase markers that can be found in some stores. This is an especially great option for children.
