When you are using the Internet on a system that runs Windows XP, it can be helpful to know how to delete addresses that come up when you start typing in the URL bar. When you haven't cleared them out recently, they can be pesky and cluttering. Maybe you are surfing for some private sites and you don't want this to be recognized by someone who shares your computer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Tools > Internet Options.

    Tools > Internet Options.

Select "Tools" > "Internet Options" from the navigation toolbar.

  2. Step 2
    Click delete

    Click delete

From the Internet Options window, click on the General tab, and then click on the Delete button below Browsing History. Note: Clicking Delete here will not remove anything. You have to choose what specifically you want to delete at the next window.

  3. Step 3
    Delete temporary Internet files

The Delete Browsing History window will pop up. You want to delete your temporary Internet files to clear out the address bar's drop-down list of old URLs. When you click the Delete button, you will receive a warning message asking you to verify your intent to proceed: "Are you sure you want to delete all temporary Internet Explorer files?" Click "yes."
