How to Change an AOL Instant Messenger Password
Instant messaging, or IM, has quickly become a popular means of communication in today's networked society. Once the domain of teenagers and college students, it has now transitioned and become a popular way for businesspeople in different locations to communicate as well. AOL Instant Messenger, or AIM, is one of the most popular instant messenger programs. However as with most Internet-based applications, security can become compromised, so it's important to change your password regularly.

Open AIM on your computer and sign in.

Go to Edit>Settings in the AIM program window.

Click the Sign In/Sign Out tab on the left-hand menu.

Under "Password Reset" click "Change My Password." A new browser window will open up that takes you to an AOL sign-in page. You will see the account security question you chose when you set up your account. This may be something like, "Who is your favorite singer?" Enter the answer to your security question. You will be taken to your "My Account" screen.

Go to the "Password" tab on the left-hand side of the "My Account" screen and enter your old password in the blank provided, then your new password (twice). You will be taken to a confirmation screen that shows your password has been updated.

Tips & Warnings
Make your password easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess. It must be at least six characters long and ideally have both letters and numbers.
