Things You'll Need:
- Toolkit Wall mount Drill

Step 1
Be prepared to handle the heavy weight of a plasma television. Although it may look compact, plasma screens are far heavier than their liquid crystal display (LCD) counterparts. Some plasma televisions weigh more than 100 pounds, requiring a heavy duty wall mount.
-
Step 2
Avoid placing the mount in areas that receive direct sunlight at any time during the day. Plasma screens become difficult to perceive if sunlight or other direct lights are shining directly at the screen.
-
Step 3
Choose an appropriate wall mount type. Fixed wall mounts are the easiest to install, but they don't allow you to adjust the screen easily. Articulated or tilting mounts allow you to adjust the screen easily, but add some additional steps to installation. Check the load bearing capacity listed for the wall mount in its included documentation to make sure that it can hold the heft of the plasma screen without difficulty. A wall mount can be purchased at a home electronics shop or a home improvement store.
-
Step 4
Determine if the wall in question can hold the wall mount safely. The mount can be installed through drywall, but the screws will have to penetrate the wooden studs to safely hold it. Consulting a professional over the telephone or for an in-home consultation could prevent a disaster. Load-bearing walls are typically strong enough to hold a plasma television. These are the walls that circle the exterior of the home and are always much stronger than interior walls that just separate rooms within the house.
-
Step 5
Mark the positions of the wooden studs where you plan to install the wall mount. Drill in the screws while holding the mounting apparatus against the wall. If the proper screws did not come with the mount, purchase heavy duty screws to ensure that the mount can bear the load of the screen. Ensure that the mount is level.
-
Step 6
Following the instructions that come with the television and mount, attach the TV to the mount. Before attaching the front of the television to the back panel, connect all cables to it, especially if it's a fixed television mount. Otherwise, you might need to take the television off of the mount to install new cables.
