When many women go through menopause, their sex drives greatly decrease. Menopausal women often go through mood changes, which may prevent them from becoming interested in having sexual relations. In addition, the body's estrogen levels decrease greatly during this time, which can also cause the libido to decrease.

Things You'll Need:

  • Erotic literature or movies Lubricant
  1. Step 1

Discuss your lack of sex drive with your doctor. It is possible that one of the medications that you are currently taking could be causing you to experience low libido. To increase your sex drive, it's important to find out whether or not you are on one of these medications.

  2. Step 2

Become comfortable with your appearance. Get a tan, have your nails done and try out a new hairstyle. Join a gym or take a yoga class. Anything that you can do to feel comfortable with how you look will help you ignore the changes that are taking place in your body. The more comfortable you are, the more interested in sex you will become.

  3. Step 3

Find ways to arouse yourself if this is necessary. Read erotic literature or watch sexual movies. Sometimes, your partner just might not be able to arouse you the same way that he used to. It may be because he isn't trying as hard or because your body has gone through changes that prevent you from experiencing the same type of arousal. If this a problem that you are facing, arousing yourself is a great option.

  4. Step 4

Use a lubricant. Vaginal dryness affects many women after they have gone through menopause. Using a lubricant will help ensure that you are able to comfortably enjoy sex.

  5. Step 5

Stay active, but know when to relax. Without any energy, it's unlikely that you will be able to hold a steady interest in sex. Although you should exercise, don't overdo it. Taking a nap from time to time is one of the best ways to ensure that you will have energy later on.

  6. Step 6

Remember that it's not just you. As men age, their libidos also tend to decrease. Having your husband or sexual partner find ways to increase his own libido is one of the best ways to maintain your own sex drive.

  7. Step 7

Consider taking herbs to increase female libido after menopause. There are many herbs that doctors recommend for this purpose. Black kohosh, red clover and kudzu are three herbs that are known to be effective at increasing libido. Often, it is recommended to take all three of them together, since the results may be much more effective.

  8. Step 8

Make healthy changes to your diet to increase libido. Since obesity is known to negatively affect libido, weight loss may be necessary. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains should all be increased, while foods high in fat or sugar should be decreased.
