Bridal consultants typically work for bridal retailers, assisting clients with decisions on gowns and bridesmaids' dresses. They also assist with coordinating accessories such as shoes, jewelry and headpieces. Although most employers don't require a formal education, a background in fashion or retail is helpful, and writing a resume tailored to job openings is important. Here's a guide to writing a bridal consultant resume.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first section on your bridal consultant resume should be your contact information. Include your name, phone number and mailing address.

  2. Step 2

State your objective. This statement should include your career goals. For example, a bridal consultant may write that she is seeking a position consulting on accessories and assisting clients with wardrobe planning.

  3. Step 3

Include an experience section. Include positions in which you've consulted on fashion, specifically with brides. Highlight any additional responsibilities you've taken on and customer relationship skills.

  4. Step 4

Create a section for education and training. If you've earned a college degree, include this information. Include bridal seminars you've attended, such as those on bridal fashion trends.

  5. Step 5

List your honors and awards. If you served on special committees while attending fashion and design school, include this information. Include anything relevant to the fashion industry, even if it's not bridal specific.

  6. Step 6

Ask a qualified person to proofread your resume. This will save you from embarrassing spelling and grammatical errors.

  7. Step 7

Check out sample resumes to get ideas. Companies like Smart Hunt provide free sample bridal consultant resumes (see Resources).

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider relevant volunteer opportunities, such as at bridal fairs and fashion shows. Experiences like these will catch a potential employer's attention.
  • Call the hiring manager before submitting your resume to increase the chances of your resume being noticed. Call again a few days after submitting the resume to answer any potential questions about your candidacy.
