So you want to know how to create a website using Microsoft Word. Website builders like Dreamweaver or Frontpage are quite expensive, particularly if you only need a simple page or two with some basic information. Since the majority of word processor users use Microsoft Word, it makes it a natural choice for a free (assuming you already have it) website builder. Follow the steps below for each of your pages to build your site.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Word Web host
  1. Step 1

Open up a new Microsoft Word document.

  2. Step 2

Click on View, and select Web Layout.

  3. Step 3

Build your page as you would normally work in Word.

  4. Step 4

Click on File, then Save As. Name the file, then choose Web Page as File Type. This will make it an HTM document.

  5. Step 5

Upload your HTM document to your web server.

Tips & Warnings
  • Yahoo! runs free web hosting. Simply visit webhosting.yahoo.com or www.geocities.com for your free page. Your "home" page needs to be named "index.htm". Make sure when you save the page, you name it that. It is also recommended to upload that page first. This way, when someone goes to your website, this will be the first page that automatically comes up. To insert a hyperlink in your Word document, click on Insert from the top menu, then Hyperlink.
