Draw a 3D Dog

Drawing a 3-dimensional dog may seem like a daunting task at first. However, like all drawing, once you identify the basic shapes that are involved in the composition of a dog, the matter becomes simple. One of the most effective ways to create a realistic 3-dimensional dog is to use 3-dimensional shapes as the basic skeletal frame to draw the details of the dog on. Shapes like, cubes, cones and cylinders can all be used to act as building blocks for the body of the dog.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a cylinder for the torso of the dog. Draw a large circle for the front of the cylinder and a smaller circle directly to the right of the first circle. Connect these circles with parallel lines.

    • 2

Add a cube for the head of the dog. Do this by drawing a square directly above the front of the cylinder. Attach a parallelogram, a 4 sided shape composed of pairs of diagonal and parallel lines, to the right-hand side of the square. Add a short cylinder in the middle of the cube to act as the dog's nose.

    • 3

Create the dog's legs with sets of cylinders that are wider at the top than the bottom. Each visible leg should be comprised of two cylinders, one on top of the other. Add cones for the dog's paws. Add the ears with small, diagonally tilted cones.

    • 4

Draw the details of the dog onto the 3-dimensional frame that you have created. Add the eyes with two small ovals above the nose. Add the nose with a curved "W" shape inside the upper middle of the nose cylinder. Create the wrinkles around the eyes with rectangular shaped ovals that are tilted diagonally to show the drooping skin. Add the characteristically floppy cheeks with large curved "U" shapes on each side of the face.

    • 5

Connect the shoulders to the front legs with a curved line. Connect the upper and lower legs with slightly curved lines. Add the mouth with two parallel horizontal lines below the nostrils and between the cheeks. Add the muscle to the dog with rounded lines around the shoulders.

    • 6

Erase all of the guidelines. Ink the entire drawing. Let the ink dry and erase the pencil lines. Darken in the mouth, nose and pupils.
