The internet has made it easier to purchase obscure foreign movies on DVD that aren't sold in this country. DVD's have region codes so they will only play on certain DVD players. For instance, US DVD's are region 1 while Europe and Japan are region 2. The only way you can play a foreign DVD then is to purchase a region free DVD player or make your DVD player region free.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a DVD player. If you purchases a DVD player, make sure you purchase a DVD player that people have had success in converting to region free. If you already own a player, you will need to note down the make and model of your player.

  2. Step 2

Look up the DVD hack for your player. There are several sites that feature DVD hacks. Two popular sites are DVD Exploder and Video Help. Simply look up the make and model of your DVD player and check to see if there is a hack.

  3. Step 3

Check for comments. In addition to looking up the hack for your player, be sure to also check for comments and read other people's success with using the code on that model. If there are any potential difficulties or "tricks" to unlocking that model player you may find information on it and save yourself some frustration trying to figure it out on your own.

  4. Step 4

Enter code using your DVD remote. Before you enter the hack you will of course need to have the DVD powered on. Additionally most DVD hacks require the DVD tray to be open. Then follow the instruction exactly, inputting the code via your remote to make your player region free.

  5. Step 5

Test to see if the code worked by playing a foreign DVD. If the DVD hack didn't work, repeat step 4 and make sure you follow the instructions precisely. If it still isn't working, visit one of the other DVD hack websites to see if there are any other codes available that are known to work. Once you have made your DVD player region free, sit back and enjoy your foreign movie.
