How to Create Wall Decorations for a Homeschool Room

The biggest advantage of homeschooling is that it allows you to let your kids have a lot of personal attention and a flexible curriculum tailored to their needs. The decorations in your classroom should reflect the progress of your kids and their academic interests. No need to invest in commercially made decorations. Have the kids make them as part of the class.

Have your kids make a border for the bulletin board. Cut four pieces of paper, each the length of one edge of one of the bulletin board edges, and have them decorate each as a project. For example, one decoration could have pictures and information about American history, the next could be an autobiography with pictures, a third could explain something in life science such as Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection, and so on. Use tape or glue to put up these border panels as they are completed.

Make awards for your kids. You can give them ribbons for well-written essays or certificates for completed classes. Let them display these awards on the bulletin board and take pride in a job well done.

Do year-long, multi-part project with the kids. Each part should have a visual component, which you can put up on the wall. For example, if your child wants to study the history of witchcraft and traditional religions in Europe, he could come up with a picture showing medicinal plants as one part, a survey of stone circles as another part and so on.
