1
Create a sample newsletter that looks similar to how the first edition will look on your publishing software like Microsoft Publisher. Write articles for the newsletter and take photographs with your digital camera. Open your publishing software and click on "Start from a Design" on the left side of the screen. Click on "Newsletters." A variety of newsletter templates already created appears at your disposal. Look over the different layouts of the newsletters to determine which style of newsletter you want to create. Type your text in here. Drag digital photos you took onto the photo boxes on the template to bring your newsletter to life. Print out a copy of your newsletter by clicking on "File" then "Print." This printed sample newsletter will serve as a marketing tool.

Compile a list of businesses you want to visit that could make good advertisers for your publication. If you are creating a neighborhood newsletter, this business list includes any business in your neighborhood. If you are creating a regional industry newsletter like one serving the medical community, the business list includes any doctors' offices and medical facilities. Meet with these businesses by talking to the owners of the businesses about your publication. Show them your sample newsletter. Tell them how much it costs to advertise in the newsletter and where the advertisement would go. Many newsletter publishers decide to use the advertiser's business card as an advertisement. This makes it easy for the newsletter publisher rather than having to create an entirely new ad for each client. Collect the money from the advertisers and obtain a copy of the business card you will use as the advertisement. Ask each advertiser whether it would be OK to distribute the newsletter free to the public in his business. Ask even those business owners who don't choose to advertise whether you can distribute the newsletter free to the public at their locations.

Gather enough advertising money to cover the cost of printing your newsletter, for newsletter distribution and to pay you for your work. Obtain a printing quote for printing your newsletters. Some moderate sized community newsletters print about 20,000 copies of the newsletter to be distributed at the businesses in the neighborhood or throughout the industry selected. You can distribute the newsletters yourself to save money. Add all the expenses involved to produce and distribute the publication. Make sure that you are bringing in enough money to pay the bills.

4
Publish the newsletter by scanning in copies of each of the business cards onto your computer's desktop. Once you hit "Scan" on your scanner, a new window appears on your screen. Pull down the drop-down menu to save the scan to your desktop so you can easily find it. Drag the scanned advertisements onto the newsletter and arrange them all in a row on the front or back pages. Proofread the articles in your newsletter to make sure that there are no errors.
-
5
Save your finished newsletter as a file on your computer desktop. Send the completed newsletter to the printing company you have selected to use in an email. Most printing companies can accept newsletters in this fashion to produce a higher quality publication. Pick up the newsletters from the printers when they are completed.

Take a few copies of the newsletter to each business that agreed to let you distribute the newsletter. If you see the business owner when you walk in, hand him a copy and tell him it turned out well. Ask him if he wants to get involved for next month's edition.
