Velcro rollers are a great way to add curl, wave and body to your hair. These curlers have a metal or ceramic core surrounded by a sticky Velcro exterior. Hair will stick to the roller without the aid of pins or clips. They are inexpensive and easy to use, while still being gentle on your hair. Smaller rollers provide tighter curl, while larger ones will make waves and give your hair extra body. Velcro curlers can be purchased at beauty supply shops and discount retailers. You can curl short to medium length hair on these rollers or even very long hair.

Things You'll Need:

  • Velcro rollers Large paddle-style hairbrush Hairspray Mousse, thermal spray or spray gel Shine enhancer Hair dryer Curling iron (optional)
  1. Step 1

Choose small Velcro rollers. Short hair will require very small rollers, while longer hair may curl with slightly larger rollers. If you want full blown curls, rollers should be less than 2 inches in diameter. Larger rollers will provide waves, body or even help to straighten curly hair.

  2. Step 2

Wash and condition hair as you usually do. Blow dry until the hair is damp but not dry, or allow your hair to air dry until it is damp, but not wet.

  3. Step 3

Apply mousse, spray gel or the styling product of your choice. Select a product that offers soft hold and has thermal protection if at all possible. Begin rolling the hair on your Velcro rollers. Use the smallest rollers near your face and larger ones at the back of the head. For the best curls, roll the hair on the top of the head horizontally and place rollers on the sides vertically.

  4. Step 4

Apply heat using a hair dryer until the rollers are hot. Allow them to cool completely in your hair. Carefully remove the Velcro curlers one by one.

  5. Step 5

Style hair carefully using your fingers. Apply hair spray and shine enhancer to your new curls. If needed, use a curling iron to touch up your curls.

Tips & Warnings
  • A jeweled clip, barrette or a beautiful silk scarf can dress up your curls. Try using Velcro rollers on sprayed dry hair for a quick boost or evening style if you don't have time to wash and style your hair.
  • Avoid brushing your curls.
