Earring stands are a great way to organize and display your earring wardrobe. Post earring stands are relatively easy to make for the handy do-it-yourselfer, and they make great gifts. They can be made from thin, flat sheets of material, such as plastic or wood. Those made from wood can be painted and embellished. You can make a two panel earring stand or a multi-paneled earring stand. The earring stand shown in the image is suitable for hooped earrings, and requires cutting as well as drilling to allow space for the hoops or indentations for the hanging wire earrings. The following steps will show how to make a basic earring stand for post earrings.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 - 4" x 11" panels of thin flat wood or plastic 3 sets of small decorative hinges Drill with small bit Sand paper Graph paper Ruler Felt tip pen Paint or stain Toothpick
  1. Step 1

Create a template on a piece of graph paper that will map out the holes to be drilled. Measure out a 4" x 11" vertical rectangle on the graph paper.

  2. Step 2

Draw eight horizontal equally spaced lines on the rectangle.

  3. Step 3

Draw eight equally spaced dots on each line. Use a felt tip pen to do this.

  4. Step 4

Make four photocopies of this template. Save the original for future earring tree projects.

  5. Step 5

Cut out each rectangle copy, and tape one to each of the 4" x 11" panels. Use a ruler to insure each line is straight on the panel.

  6. Step 6

Use a drill to make a small hole (just large enough for an earring post to fit through) on each dot.

  7. Step 7

Remove the templates from the panels, and use sandpaper to remove rough edges if necessary.

  8. Step 8

Paint or stain the wood surface. Use a toothpick to make sure none of the holes get closed up with the paint or stain.

  9. Step 9

Attach two panels together by securing two hinges to the backside of each panel. One hinge should be one-inch from the top edge, and the second hinge should be one inch from the bottom edge. Repeat until all four panels are attached.
