How to Make a Silk Flower Arrangement

A flower arrangement is a great addition to any room, table or empty space. It can also make a wonderful gift that will brighten someone's day. Real flowers may smell nice but they die quickly and are quite expensive. Instead you can make a silk arrangement that is still just as beautiful, easier to maintain, far less expensive and will never die. Putting together a silk arrangement is easy and enjoyable.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what kind of arrangement you would like to make as there are countless possibilities. The arrangement could be themed, have a color scheme, feature a tall vase that is meant to awe or a short and simple vase meant to simply fill an empty space. Select your silk flowers and purchase several, perhaps more than you think you need (you can return those you don't use) so you are sure that you have enough to fill your vase and complete the look.

    • 2

Bunch the flowers together and start to arrange them as you imagine. Make sure to create different levels to show off spotlight flowers and add depth to the arrangement. Add in fillers, such as silk leaves, silk grass and silk baby's breath to fill in any holes or create a a fuller arrangement. Hold the stems together with a rubberband when you think you have an arrangement you are happy with.

    • 3

Cut the stems of the flowers and filler to an even length once you are happy with the arrangement. Keep the rubberband on the stems to make cutting easier. Fill the bottom of the vase one fourth of the way up with large colored stones. Remove the rubberband from the stems.

    • 4

Wire the stems together at the middle of the base of the stems by wrapping a wire around the stems several times. Place the bunch in the vase. Push it down a little so they kind of stick inside the stones you just put in. Pour in a bit of colored pebbles. Then add some more stones.

    • 5

Pull the stems apart slightly to widen them and make them cover the entire width of the vase. Wire the stems together to hold them in place by tying one stem to another and then another and another so they form a small chain like mass or spider web mass. Pour more pebbles in followed by stones until you almost reach the top. Cover the top layer with colored stones. That is it, you have a beautiful silk flower arrangement.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't choose flowers with deep pits or crevices as they are difficult to dust and clean.
