Hard water deposits are chalky white minerals that accumulate on surfaces from hard water. Bathtubs can be especially prone to hard water buildup if hard water is used in a home. Hard water deposits lead to a gray dullness that detracts from how clean a bathtub looks and feels. White vinegar is an effective, natural cleaner for hard water deposits. If these hard water stains are not cleaned, eventually they can damage surfaces and make soap scum difficult to remove.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White vinegar Soft cleaning cloth Baking soda Sponge
  1. Step 1

Fill a clean spray bottle with white vinegar. Spray the vinegar heavily over the hard water deposits in the bathtub. Let the vinegar soak into the tub for several minutes.

  2. Step 2

With the damp sponge, wipe the vinegar from the tub. If the deposits are stubborn, spray more vinegar and wait up to 30 minutes before wiping with the damp sponge.

  3. Step 3

If hard water stains are still apparent, make a paste with equal parts white vinegar and baking soda. Gently work this scrub into the stains on the bathtub with the sponge. Avoid abrasive cleaners and tools, which may damage the surface of the bathtub.

  4. Step 4

Try professional products if the other methods don't work. Be careful to select a product that can be used on the type of bathtub to be cleaned, however. Always use these powerful cleaners as instructed and rinse completely when finished. If care is not taken, these cleaners can cause significant damage to bathtub surfaces.
