How to Take Care of Curly Bamboo
Curly bamboo is not really a bamboo at all, but a hydroponic plant of the species Dracaena Sanderiana (also known as Lucky Bamboo). Hydroponic plants need only water to grow, not soil like other plants do. Curly bamboo's distinct characteristic is that its stem curls around and grow in this curved way. Fill a vase or other container with decorative rocks, marbles or pebbles that you buy at a pet or craft store. The vase size depends on the size of your curly bamboo plant. Most plants of this kind range in height from about 11 to 35 inches, but the curls and spirals can take up more space width-wise.

Put your plant in the vase and arrange the rocks so that the plant will stand up in them. The rocks act as a kind of anchor to keep the curly bamboo standing up.

Add water to your container, filling it about halfway. Distilled water is best, as curly bamboo sometimes will not grow as well in highly chlorinated tap water. If tap water is your only option, let it stand overnight before filling your curly bamboo container. This allows the chlorine to dissipate.

Keep tabs on both the water level and its clarity to provide the best environment for your plant. Add water when the level has become considerably low. Change the water when it appears dark or cloudy.

Place your curly bamboo plant in an area that provides moderate, yet indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can be too strong for the plant and can lead to yellowing and burning. Setting the vase on a table in a sunny room, but not directly at the window, can be one way to achieve this goal.

Give your curly bamboo a moderate temperature range to live in. Lucky bamboo does not grow well in overly hot or cold environments. Aim for a room temperature between 50 and 80 degrees.

Wipe the plant's leaves gently with a damp cloth to remove dust and any bugs that may appear. Remember to clean the underside of the leaves as well as the tops.
