Like all dogs, Rottweiler's need their teeth taken care of. Processed dog foods and junk foods increase the rate of plaque formation in a dog's teeth. Plaque formation can lead to painful tooth decay in your dog. Taking care of your dog's teeth can prevent tooth decay and keep your dog's teeth healthy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dog toothbrush and toothpaste Greenie Raw meaty bone
  1. Step 1

Brush your Rottweiler's teeth twice a week using a soft toothbrush and dog toothpaste. Only use a toothpaste that is designed for dogs. A dog toothbrush and toothpaste can be purchased at a pet store. Unlike human toothpaste, dog toothpaste contains ingredients that are safe if swallowed.

  2. Step 2

Resist giving your dog junk food. Do not feed your dog any junk food, especially sugary food. Sugary and starchy foods stick to the teeth and turn into plaque.

  3. Step 3

Give your a daily dental chew to remove plaque. The Veterinary Oral Health Council recommends Greenies for canine dental health. Only feed your dog one Greenie a day. Give your dog the size Greenie recommended for their body weight. When feeding Greenies or any other dental chew, to reduce the likelihood of your dog choking, watch your dog to make sure that they are chewing the dental chew thoroughly and not swallowing big chunks of the product.

  4. Step 4

Give your Rottweiler a raw meaty bone to chew on everyday. A raw meaty bone provides nourishing teeth care that is fun for your dog. The raw meat flosses between the teeth. The bone scrapes off plaque. A turkey neck or a chicken leg provides a dog with chewing fun and a dental treatment in one.

  5. Step 5

Take your dog to the veterinarian for regular teeth checkups so that you can catch any potential teeth problems before they develop into large problems. If your dog has unhealthy teeth or gums, the vet can do a professional cleaning or recommend special teeth care products or a special diet for teeth health.

  6. Step 6

Try a raw foods diet to increase the health of your dog's teeth and gums. Many dog owners have reported that their dog's teeth have greatly improved after their dog was switched to a raw foods diet. Check the resources section for a website on the raw food diet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Regularly have your dog's teeth examined by a veterinarian. Tooth decay that is left untreated can lead to pain and health problems for your dog.
