How Can I Boost My iMac's Wireless Internet Range?
The distinctive design and slim monitor of the Apple iMac desktop computer make it much easier to move around than the standard desktop. If you want to move your iMac farther away from your wireless router, such as to the other end of a house or another apartment in a building but still want to access your wireless Internet, there are several ways that you can boost your wireless signal.
Instructions

1
Make sure the cable line running into your modem is firmly screwed in and that the Ethernet cable running from the modem to your wireless router is snapped in all the way.
-
2
Remove any large objects made of thick material such as wood or metal that can get in the way and interfere with the signal being sent to and received from your iMac.

3
Check the documentation for your wireless router and find out its current range. See if the router's antenna can be replaced manually. Purchase an antenna that sends a signal in a single direction and position it toward your iMac (see Resources). If necessary, replace the router with one that offers a larger range.
-
4
Reduce signal interference by removing any wireless or electrical devices, such as a television or cordless phone, between your iMac and the router.
-
5
Purchase a wireless repeater that uses the same wireless technology as your router, such as 802.11a or 802.11g. Set up the repeater close to the router's range to boost the signal enough to reach your iMac.

Tips & Warnings
Although the 802.11g wireless technology does not have a longer range than other technologies it does provide much faster file transfer speeds, which will make your Internet browsing and file downloads much quicker.
