Upgrading to a new Microsoft Windows environment can be a little confusing until you find your way around. Once you do, you will realize that Windows Vista has a lot to offer. And while the setup of Vista may look a bit different than the Windows versions of old, many of the old applications are still available; they are just hidden in new packaging. If you are trying to uninstall a program in Vista, but are having some trouble navigating, you'll be surprised at how easy it is once you learn the steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vista desktop
  1. Step 1

Drag your mouse to the bottom toolbar on the Vista desktop and click on the start icon. If you are not yet familiar with some of the symbols, the start prompt is at the bottom left corner of the screen.

  2. Step 2

Scroll up and over after you click the start icon. New tabs will open up to the left, highlighted in gray. There is a tab that reads "control panel," which you should remember from your older version of Windows. Click "control panel" and a new window will open up.

  3. Step 3

Scroll down the new window with your mouse and click on "uninstall a program." Afterward a new window will open up that displays all of the programs that have been installed.

  4. Step 4

Hover over the program that you would like to uninstall and highlight it with your mouse cursor. Once you are confident that you have found the correct program, drag your mouse up to the top-middle of the window and click on "uninstall/change."

  5. Step 5

Follow the prompts that will ask you to verify the uninstall process. Follow the procedure for any programs that you wish to uninstall under Windows Vista.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is a good idea to take a look at the list of programs that are listed in the programs window. There may be several programs that you no longer use and are just taking up precious space on your computer. You may want to take the time to remove them and free up some space.
  • Be careful when you do decide to remove a program. Once Vista has removed a program, it can only be replaced by redownloading it, or reloading it off of a disc. Be careful not to uninstall any programs that the Vista environment may need to function.
