Have you tried to get your kids to read more? Many parents report feeling lots of frustration about a lack of reading in their children's lives. Video games, television, movies, and the Internet seem to have replaced quality reading time. If your children never pick up a book, you should organize a kids' book club. A good book club will help kids to start reading, or help those who already read to read more. This article describes how to organize a kid's book club, including information about what sorts of books to read and how to hold meetings.

Talk to your kids about what sorts of books they like. Find out if there is a type of book or series of books that your children and their friends like to read. In recent years, kids seem to really be into things like Harry Potter, but there is a wealth of youth literature out there that could spark your child's interest.
If your children do not read, select something that seems to resonate with their interests. When your child's friends come over to the house to play, observe the types of movies they watch or the types of video games they enjoy. This should provide a clue to what sorts of books they will enjoy together.

Talk with your children about forming the reading group. You might need to start by promising some reward for holding the meetings, such as a tasty treat or the right to play video games later. With your child, write a series of invitations to their friends suggesting what book you will read, when you will meet, and how many pages they need to have read by the first meeting. Make your invitations bright, colorful and inviting. Contact the other children's parents to get their permission for the book club.

Provide treats for the meetings. You might need to help get the first discussion started. Your kids probably will not be used to speaking much about books. Pick a topic or scene in the book to discuss, and allow the children to take it from there.

Choosing a book from which a movie has been made can also be a good way to get kids excited about reading. In this case, the kids have some reason to think that the book might be interesting.
