As a skin moisturizer and protectant, it makes a wonderful cosmetic foundation. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a new double boiler. Once you have melted beeswax in this pot, you will not be able to use it to cook food. You may, however, use the double boiler to melt beeswax and make your beeswax foundation as many times as you would like.

    • 2

Obtain the highest-quality coconut oil and beeswax. Good-quality, food-grade coconut oil can be found in health-food stores and grocery co-ops. Coconut oil is a white solid at room temperature. If you open it and do not use it all at once, keep the remaining portion in the refrigerator.

    • 3

Strain the beeswax unless it is already clean. This is easy; simply place the beeswax in an old stocking and tie. Pour water in the bottom of your double boiler and put the stocking with wax in the top. When you heat, the wax will melt out of the stocking, leaving any debris behind. Throw the stocking with debris away.

    • 4

Place equal amounts of beeswax and coconut oil in your double boiler. (For example, 5 oz. of beeswax and 5 oz. of coconut oil.) Melt while stirring gently with a wooden spoon. When the two substances are completely mixed, remove from heat and pour into your wide-mouth, hard-plastic cosmetic container.

    • 5

When this cools, it will feel hard at first. To use, put a small amount in the palm of your hand. The beeswax foundation will soften as your hand warms it. Once the foundation is warm enough, use your fingers to spread a thin, even layer on your face. Avoid your eyes! This foundation can also be used as a lip protectant, but be mindful of the taste before applying liberally to the lips.

    • 6

This cosmetic beeswax foundation both gently moisturizes and protects the skin. The beeswax creates a thin shield between facial skin and the elements. It will prevent chapping. A little sunscreen or color can be added to the beeswax foundation while warming in your hands just before application.

Tips & Warnings

  • This beeswax foundation can be applied to other parts of the body that need gentle moisturizing and/or protection from water and wind.

  • Beeswax-and-coconut-oil foundation works extremely well for people with normal to dry skin. If you have very oily skin, wash your face thoroughly before application and use the foundation sparingly at first.
