Electric Smooth Top Stove

Electric smooth top stoves add a sleek and clean style to any kitchen. They are easy to use and easy to keep clean provided that preliminary cleanup is practiced. As with any type of stove, leaving spills to bake on to the finish will make the job more difficult. Cleaning an electric top stove should be done as soon as possible after a mess occurs to keep it looking like new forever.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electric smooth top stove Paper towels Wash rag or soft cloth Razor blade Commercial window cleaner
  1. Step 1

Keep a wet cloth near the stove when cooking. Wipe away any spills as soon as they happen. This will make the final cleaning of the smooth top stove much easier.

  2. Step 2

While the stove is still warm after cooking, use a wet paper towel to clean up any remaining spills. This will prevent spills from drying and baking on the stove top. The longer spills are left on the stove, the harder it is to remove them.

  3. Step 3

When the stove has cooled, use a wet, soapy sponge to clean the entire top of the stove. Clean away as much debris as possible. Follow by wiping the stove dry with a paper or cloth towel.

  4. Step 4

Holding a razor blade at a 45-degree angle, scrape away any baked on food and spills. Do the entire stove top the same way as you would scrape tape off a piece of glass. This will remove all residue from the smooth glass top. Wipe it clean again with a paper or cloth towel.

  5. Step 5

Spray on a commercial window cleaner and wipe the stove top clean with a paper or cloth towel. Do this several times to remove any soap residue for a completely clean and shiny look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wipe away any spills as soon as possible to prevent from baking on the stove top. Make sure that pots and pans have smooth bottoms to avoid scratching the surface. Cleaners made specifically for electric smooth top stoves can be found at any home improvement store.
  • Do not slide pots and pans on the surface of the smooth top stove. Doing this can damage the stove top. Do not use steel wool to clean a smooth top stove. These may scratch the surface.
