Release the reel from the trimmer following the manufacturer's instructions.

Insert about an inch of the new string into the holder on the reel. This holder will be a hole or slot that the new string will go into so that it is held in place as you wind the string around.

Wind the string around the reel slowly, making sure that each row is perpendicular to the other. Follow the winding up and down, one row over the other, each layer perpendicular. Only fill the reel to right under the edge of the spool so that you do not over-fill it.

Insert the reel back in to the trimmer by first inserting the end of the string on the reel into the outer hole that is on the trimmer. This ensures it is threaded and ready to trim.
