Instructions

    • 1

Hold the lapel of the suit jacket with your thumb in behind the cloth. If the man is wearing a shirt only, the boutonniere should be pinned on his right side about five inches down from his shoulder line.

    • 2

Place the boutonniere next to the cloth with the stem pointing down. Flowers are always worn in the same direction they are grown, with stems down.

    • 3

Insert the pin into the cloth on the right side of the boutonniere.

    • 4

Push the pin through the top layer of cloth and back out next to the stem of the flower.

    • 5

Push the pin through the covered stem.

    • 6

Keep pushing the pin until it is out of the stem piece. Push further until the pin catches in the cloth on the left side of the boutonniere. Firmly push until the end of the pin is buried in the cloth.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the boutonniere seems to be heavy you can use a second pin. Use a safety pin to fasten a boutonniere on to a child's clothing. Take no chances on a child being pricked by the boutonniere pin. The stem always points down when pinning on a boutonniere.
