A stain from a permanent marker can seem like what the name implies; permanent. Running the clothing through the washing machine alone will not lift this obstinate stain so special care must be taken to get it out. Not all remedies will work on every garment, and it may be a hit or miss process, but eventually the stain will come out.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nail polish remover Salt Hairspray WD-40 Cream of tartar Lemon juice Toothpaste
  1. Step 1

Apply nail polish remover to the stain and blot with a clean paper towel until the stain goes away.

  2. Step 2

Wash the garment in the washing machine with a cup of salt using cold water and no detergent.

  3. Step 3

Place a paper towel under the garment. Spray the stain with hairspray and rub with a q-tip. The paper towel will help to absorb the stain and prevent it from staining the other side.

  4. Step 4

Apply WD-40 to the stain and blot with a clean paper towel until the stain goes away.

  5. Step 5

Soak the stained area in vinegar for at least an hour and run through the washing machine.

  6. Step 6

Mix cream of tartar and lemon juice into a paste and apply to the stain. Allow this to sit for about an hour before running the garment through the washing machine.

  7. Step 7

Scrub the stain with toothpaste and a paper towel. Make sure it is the paste kind, gel will not work.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not simply run the stained garment through the wash without attempting to treat the stain first as this may set the stain and it will never go away.
