How to Refill a LC51Y Ink Cartridge

Ink cartridges run out of ink over time. When this happens, there are two ways of handling the problem: replace the ink cartridge or refill the empty cartridge. Although replacing the cartridge is the easiest method, refilling the cartridge is cheaper. Here is a guide to refilling a Brother LC-51Y ink cartridge.

• Brother LC-51Y ink refill kit Paper towels Rubber gloves

Instructions

1. Take the empty ink cartridge and place it on its side on a flat surface like a table. Then cut the label where it joins the top and bottom halves of the cartridge.

2. Open the cartridge casing and separate the cartridge from the casing.

3. Drill through the hole at the top of the cartridge with the thumb drill that came with the refill kit.

4. Fill the syringe for yellow ink with 20 milliliters of yellow ink.

5. Carefully inject the ink into the hole you've drilled, stopping just before the ink reaches the hole.

6. Cover the hole by applying the set screw with the all wrench, both of which is provided in the refill kit.

7. Put the cartridge back into the casing and tape it shut with the aluminum tape provided in the kit. Then put the cartridge back into the printer.
