Instructions

    • 1

Draw a 22-inch circle pattern on newspaper for the body of the chef's hat, using the compass. Cut the circle out. Slice a 4-inch slit from the side toward the center.

    • 2

Draw an 8-inch-wide-by-26-inch-long rectangle for the cuff of the chef's hat and cut out.

    • 3

Pin the patterns to a single layer of fabric and cut out.

    • 4

Match the right side of the bias tape to the wrong side of the fabric along the cut slit in the circle and pin. Sew the bias tape to the slit. Fold the bias tape to the front of the fabric and pin. Top stitch the bias tape.

    • 5

Hand sew a running stitch around the edge of the chef's hat body circle.

    • 6

Fold the length of the chef's hat cuff in half and match the long edges with the right sides together. Sew a 1/2-inch seam allowance on each short end. Turn the cuff right side out and press.

    • 7

Fold the body circle in quarters and place a pin at each quarter fold. Unfold the circle. Fold the cuff in half and in half again. Place a pin in each fold. Unfold the cuff.

    • 8

Gather the circle and pin the wrong side of the body to one side of the cuff. Match the marking pins of the body with the marking pins of the cuff. Place the bias tape ends of the slit inside the ends of the cuff. Sew the cuff to the body using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

    • 9

Fold the cuff to the front of the chef's hat. Tuck the edge of the cuff in 1/2 inch and top stitch. Press the cuff and top stitch the bottom edge.

    • 10

Cut the Velcro 4 inches long. Pull it apart and pin one half horizontally to the center on the wrong side of the cuff, on the end and at the slit. Pin the other half horizontally on the right side of the cuff and at the other slit. Sew the Velcro to the cuff.
