1
Measure the window. Exact measurements of the window will give you a base size for your panel.
-
2
Cut fabric to the size desired. The fabric will need to have 1 inch in excess on each side of the panel and 4 inches of excess fabric at the top and at the bottom. (Example: a window that is 42 by 36 inches will need a piece of fabric that is 50 by 38 inches.)

3
Fold the sides, top, and bottom of the panel. Fold the sides of the panel 1 inch inward. Fold the top and bottom inward 4 inches in each section.
-
4
Iron and pin the folds down with straight pins to ensure clean straight edges. For those who opt to make no-sew panels, this would be the time to place your fusible tape inside the fold and iron it to adhere the tape to the fabric.
-
5
Stitch the folded sides to the panel. Remove the pins once you have completed sewing.
-
6
Sew the folded edge of the fabric to the panel to create a hem at the bottom of the fabric. This step can be completed either by hand or with a sewing machine.
-
7
Form a rod casing by pinning a straight line across the center of the folded top portion of the panel. This will create a pocket for a curtain rod. This pinned area should be one half of the way from the top fold to the edge.
-
8
Sew the rod casing. Remove the pins upon completion and sew the bottom edge to the panel to complete your curtain panel. If you are using fusible tape, you will need to tape and iron the pinned area to create the rod casing as well as tape and iron the edge.
