Although iTunes is the default application that works together with your iPod, it can often impose restrictive limitations on what you can do with your digital music and movie files. By converting your iPod to a mini hard drive, you can enable your iPod to easily receive music and video files from any computer without needing iTunes to intervene. Here is a quick step-by-step guide on how to put videos on your iPod without iTunes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • BitTorrent client, such as Vuze
  1. Step 1

Convert your iPod to a portable hard disk drive. Connect your iPod to your computer. Select your iPod on the left navigational column within iTunes.

  2. Step 2

On the lower-right corner of iTunes, click "Options." Your iPod preferences should open. Select "Enable disk use." Also uncheck "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached." In the "Summary" tab, check "Manually manage music and videos." Close iTunes but keep your iPod connected to your computer.

  3. Step 3

Download Floola using your BitTorrent client. Double-click on the application icon to install Floola onto your iPod. (See Resources.)

  4. Step 4

Once Floola is installed, drag and drop video files from your computer to the window containing the green icon. Floola will copy the videos onto your iPod. Mac users can drag and drop video files to Floola's dock icon.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are multiple file formats that are not supported by iPods, such as .flv, .wma, .vob or .wmv. Make sure to convert your video into the appropriate file format before transferring it to your iPod.
