How to Uninstall an Antivirus Program

Users dissatisfied with a particular free or purchased, branded antivirus program due to unsatisfactory performance or ease-of-use issues may want to uninstall the antivirus program. Or, perhaps a deadly virus has bypassed the firewalls and security features of the installed antivirus program and infected your computer, thereby nullifying the effectiveness of your installed antivirus program. Whatever the reason, a few simple steps will help you to uninstall an antivirus program from your desktop or laptop.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button located on the bottom left of the task bar of your computer.

2. Scroll to "Control Panel" and click on it.

3. Once the Control Panel window opens up displaying various control menus or features, click on the "Uninstall a Program" link under Programs.

4. Scroll down to the free or paid-for, branded antivirus program from the list of programs that opens up and click on it. Click on the pop-out, which says "Uninstall/Change." Depending on the version of the antivirus program installed on your computer, different operations such as "Modify," "Remove" or "Repair" are displayed.

5. Click "Remove" and then "OK." Uninstalling the antivirus program will take a few minutes relative to the processing power of your computer.
