Pouring a Hefeweizen from a bottle is much different from pouring any other type of beer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hefeweizen Glass
  • Bottle of Hefeweizen
  • Bottle Opener
  1. Step 1

Rinse the glass with cold water. Shake it dry (gently), but do not dry it completely.

  2. Step 2

Open the bottle of beer and begin to pour as you would any other. Start almost horizontally to the glass, try to create as little head as possible. Begin to slowly upright the glass just enough to keep it from spilling.

  3. Step 3

When almost all the beer is out of the bottle stop. Leave at least 1 finger (.5in - 1in) of beer in the bottle.

  4. Step 4

Twirl the remaining beer in the bottle around the bottom and sides vigorously.

  5. Step 5

After 5 - 10 seconds of swirling, pour the remaining beer into the glass. This will fill up the rest of the glass with foam, create a nice 2 finger head, and dump the yeast into suspension in the beer.

  6. Step 6

Don't wait for the head to settle, just go ahead and sip until you actually get beer in your mouth. Go down through the head. Be sure to wipe your mustache off afterwords. Enjoy!

  7. Step 7

    ALTERNATIVELY

You can also roll the bottle of beer back and forth on a flat surface before you open it, but it's potentially more messy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to leave the right amount of beer in the bottle. Too little and you'll get clumps of yeast in your glass (yuck!). Too much and the head might come over the top of the glass (messy).
  • Try to get the Hefeweizen at the proper temperature. Just a little warmer than a standard (American) beer.
  • Don't drink too much.
  • If you demonstrate this skill in front of people, you may be asked to repeat it or teach it.
