How to Set Real Player As My Default Player

Many people may have more than one media player program installed on their PC or Laptop. Some of the more common media player programs include iTunes, Windows Media and Real Player. These programs can be used to play media files such as music and videos. They can also be used to create a music or video library, burn and rip CDs along with many other functions.
When multiple media player programs are installed, a default player can be set so that each time a song or video file has to be played, ripped or burned, the computer will automatically open the file in the program that is set as the default player.

      Using a mouse, move the cursor over to the "Start" button in the main windows screen. Left click on the "Start" button. When the "Start" window is open, move the cursor over to "All Programs." In the "All Programs" window, locate the Real Player icon or title and left click on it to open the Real Player program.

      Locate the "Tools" tab that is at the top of the Real Player window. Left click on "Tools." Move the cursor down the "Tools" menu to locate the "Preferences" tab. Click on "Preferences."

      Find the column on the left side of the "Preferences" window. In the column, locate the "Content" heading. Under "Content," locate see the sub-heading, "Media Types." Left click on "Media Types."

      Look for the "Make Real Player my universal media player in the center of the "Media Types" window. To the left of this window is a small white circle. Move the cursor over the circle and left click on it. A smaller black circle will then appear inside the white circle.

      Move the cursor over to the "OK" button which is located on the bottom of the "Media Types" window. Left click on it. Once the "Ok" button is clicked, the "Media Types" window will close. Once it is closed, the Real Player will be set as the default player.
