Step 1
Have a master's in computer forensics from MIT and a bachelors of science from Johns Hopkins University. These degrees are essential to McGee's person. McGee has a wealth of information stored inside his head that has come in handy during many episodes of "NCIS." You will need as much knowledge as well if you hope to be McGee.

Purchase a McGee-friendly wardrobe. To be McGee, you must dress the part. His wardrobe includes his normal NCIS attire, which consists of button-down shirts, an occasional tie, dress pants, loafers, suit coat, boxers and T-shirts, not to mention a black NCIS baseball cap and jacket. While writing, McGee wears a turtleneck, dress pants and a suit coat with elbow patches. In addition, his writing wardrobe must include a smoking pipe for inspirational purposes.

Write a novel on a Remington typewriter and not a computer. McGee's first novel, "Deep Six," was written on a typewriter. You should also brainstorm a pen name at this time to publish your novel under. McGee's pen name, Thom Gemcity, is actually Tim McGee with the letters rearranged.

Prepare for co-worker hazing. Once you join the elite NCIS staff, you will no doubt face ridicule and hazing activities from co-workers like Anthony DiNozzo. Hazing tactics may include, but are not limited to, superglue on your keyboard, being smacked in the back of the head and having food or other objects thrown at you. You must have a high level of tolerance to deal with your co-workers' antics.

You should like Goth girls. In other words, you must find Abby Sciuto and her tattoos attractive. Also, you should not be turned off to the fact that she has a casket at her home.

Be an alpha male. DiNozzo is noted for giving McGee a hard time over his lack of self-confidence. As a result, during one episode, McGee invested in an alpha male audio lesson. You should, too. It will help you in the long run. You never know when you will need to tap into the knowledge gained from the lessons.

Have a variety of hobbies, which include playing online multiplayer video games, reading Redbook and Ladies Home Journal, writing poetry and reading the Harry Potter novels.
