How to Replace Pool Lights

You can change the light in your swimming pool

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • submersible sump pump
  • water hose
  • 15' ladder
  • extent ion cord
  • tube of silicone
  • Philip head screw driver
  • flat head screw driver
  • caulking gun
  1. Step 1

    First thing is turn the power off to the whole pool equipment room from the main panel. (where the electric meter) Hook up the water hose to the sump pump, drop the sump pump in to the deepest end of the pool, run your extension cord and hook it up to the nearest power supply. Drain the pool until you can be able to put the step ladder on the pool floor and up to the pool edge. The water should be way cleared below the light.

  2. Step 2

    Loosen the screws around the light cover and pry the cover plate and the whole light assembly. Everything is sealed in this case, unscrew the seal cover on the back of the light assembly. Do not remove the wire from this back cover. Take the back cover off and disconnect the light.

  3. Step 3

    Get your new light and hook the connecters back on. Check the light real quick by turning the main breaker back on, the timer for the pool' s light switch to on position. If the light comes on turn it right back off. The timer switch, circuit breaker for the equipment.

  4. Step 4

    Re place the rubber seals or put a bead of silicone on every joint that doesn't have a rubber seal. If you have to use the silicone on the pool' s wall to seal with the light assembly, you have to wait until the pool wall is dry so the silicone bond between the wall and light

  5. Step 5

    after sealing everything, do another quick check on the light to see if it is still working. If the light still working, shut it right off, take everything out and star filling the pool until it fill back up to the old pool 's level

Tips & Warnings
  • You should get the sump pump that your water hose can fit into.
  • Make sure you have enough hose to run the water to the grass, garden, trees last to the side walk.
  • check with your local water rules from the drought
  • You should replace all the rubber seals
  • Do not empty the whole pool out, exposure to the sun may crack the pool
  • Do not leave the light on too long it may get too hot and burn out
